As it’s nearly time for Red Nose Day and school always has a bake sale we thought it was time to get a bit of practise in (good job too based on the result!). I enlisted the help of The Boy Who Cooked who donned his brand new Henry Holland designed apron, which is available from HomeSense and Online for just £12.99 with profits helping raise money for Comic Relief.
We settled on making a Lemon Drizzle Cake and he was excited that we would finally get to use the mixer that Father Christmas had brought him.
We first weighed out the ingredients:250g Butter 400g Caster sugar 250g self-raising flour 3 eggs 2 lemons
Very few ingredients so must be dead easy! When you are 7 weighing stuff is very messy business, we were very grateful for the fab apron!
To make you mix together 250g of the sugar, the zest of both lemons and the juice of one and all the other ingredients.
Pour into your loaf tin and bake for 30mins at 160 degrees.
That’s what you should do anyway…sadly I misread the instructions and put all the sugar in, the cake would not bake, it must have taken an hour before I could finally bring it out and it looked like this…
At least there are a few weeks to go to get some more practise in as I don’t think we’ll be raising much money with efforts like this one!
