#ONEMums Lend us your voices!

I have a pretty loud voice, I think it goes with the territory of being a mum. Not often though do I get to use it for something worthwhile, now’s my chance – I hope you are listening!

Tomorrow evening (Saturday) my very good friend Michelle and Jen from BritMums will be starting their long journey to Ethiopia with ONE. On this ONEMums trip they will be joining up with a group of American bloggers to share with us the story of the county, the work that ONE are doing and how lives are being improved and indeed saved as a result.

ONE are not a charity, you will never see them asking you for money, all they want is your voice. ONE is a non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. Backed by more than 3 million members, they work with government leaders to support proven, cost-effective solutions to save lives and help build sustainable futures.

ONEMums (ONEMoms) was brought about through the notion that all parents share a connection, and if we come together and build on that connection then great things can happen, we can spread the word and so a whisper becomes a booming noise, echoing around the world.

But what are we shouting about?

Simple. We are sharing the great news, showing everyone the good that has already been done and the potential that exists. This trip is not about bringing us pictures of despair  malnourished children and disease all around, it is about Living Proof – the real progress being made by ONE.

What can I do?

Sign up to ONE, add your voice to the movement and get behind the campaign.

Ask others to do the same. Add the widget to your blog (like mine top left) to make it easy for others to get involved.

Follow the journey of Michelle and the team with the #ONEMums and #ONEMoms tags

Write about it, shout about it and why not even join in my little meme below.

The “It Only Takes ONEMum” Meme

So I thought as a light-hearted way of getting everyone involved we could do something fun. It’s pretty simple and shouldn’t take too long. In an acronym stylee (if you know the actual word let me know!) take the letters of ONEMums (or ONEMoms) and create phrases or just words that sum up being a mum for you.

You can be as serious or witty as you like. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you add the link to sign up for ONE to your post and then add yourself to the linky below. Spread the word and encourage others to join in.

Whatever you do I’m sure it will be better than my effort:

Only thing I have ever really wanted to be
Never have I felt love like it
Emotional rollercoaster
Mummy, the word I waited so long to hear
Unique little boy that is our world
Money can’t buy experience
Simply the best

Pass it on!

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should
One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers
One life
But we’re not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other
ONE

  2. I’m sorry that I haven’t done this post yet, it’s been a chaotic and horrible week and I’ve been struggling. I also am having a bit of an issue understanding the campaign and ONE’s philosophy. I have RTed and shared several times on Facebook though.

    • No pressure to join in at all! I really appreciate the tweets and sharing. Thank you

  3. Hi Clare, I’d like to join – a little late! – but couldn’t get the widget to work… I’ve tweeted you so if you can help (and I’m not too late!) then I’ll publish tomorrow :-)
