The most fun (and exercise) I’ve had in ages!
We have had our Kinect for almost a year now and really haven’t made the best use out of it. We have played a few games but just haven’t found a game that we wanted to keep going back to, until now.
I had Just Dance for the Wii when it first came out and loved it. I may not be very good at dancing but I always have great fun trying. When I got sent Just Dance 3 for the Xbox Kinect I was very excited and couldn’t wait to invite the girls round to have a go.
Thursday was the night, probably not wise on a school night but with one of us heavily pregnant (in fact I think JD3 can take credit for getting her started as she gave birth 24 hours later) there was to be no alcohol involved! In fairness we probably should have had a bit of a warm up, but we made do with a cup of tea and a few Quality Street and then got stuck in.
With over 40 different songs to choose from it took a while to decide what to dance to but our playlist included Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Jessie J, Gwen Stefani and Taio Cruz – I also fancied a boogie to a-Ha but I wasn’t allowed, guess I’ll keep to private parties for that one! There are songs from all genres and decades and definitely something for everyone.
One of the really cool features is that you can all do different steps, it is choreographed for up to 4 people to dance together – although we would have struggled to get 4 in my living room, the Christmas tree took a bashing as it was! You can also set a difficulty for each player which is really good for when you have people of different ages playing together.
We picked our own songs but there are several other modes available – you can choose a playlist, go into workout mode and just sweat or create your own dance moves with or without backing dancers. My 4 year old was asleep upstairs so we didn’t try the sing-a-long mode!
This is easily the most fun I’ve had playing a console game in ages, we really had a workout and it was brilliant, but not without aches the following day. The game coupled with the Kinect is really responsive and we had no problems with it recognising our smooth moves on the screen!
The only issue I had was getting the Kinect to recognise my menu commands, in the end I used the Xbox controller and so this was fine.
If you get a chance, get this game! It would be perfect for a bit of Christmas fun – whether to work off a bit of your turkey or have a competitive dance-off with your siblings!
