Anyone who has been hanging around here a while will know we are not very crafty. Arty stuff is done at school and admired when it’s brought home. I have never painted with J, we have had playdoh out perhaps twice and I feel pretty bad about it! When I was offered some Fimo Soft to review I thought I owed it to him to at least make an effort, despite not really knowing what it was…

We picked from the fab range of Fimo starter kits available at Craft Merrily and when they arrived tried to put off doing anything with them as long as I could. My resistance didn’t last very long as I had chosen the Monsters & Dinosaurs kit and J is obsessed with dinosaurs at the moment and has been desperate to make them since they arrived!

We cracked open the packet to find 4 different colours of Fimo and instructions of how to make a dinosaur and a dragon model. At first the Fimo is really stiff, a bit like I remember plasticine being as a child, but after a bit of kneading it was really easy to use. The instructions were easy to follow although our finished stegosaurus looks not a bit like the one in the picture!

At 4 years old J finds things like this quite hard to do (school says he need to improve his fine-motor skills) but he was really keen to have a go and once he got into it he did really well. He was not at all impressed with my attempt to create a pterodactyl for him and has already decided what we are going to make with 5 of the colours that came in the Starter kit that we also received, which has a really handy modelling tool inside that was safe for him to use by himself.

These starter kits are really good value and at just £4.75 the dinosaur set would make a fantastic stocking filler for any child. If you need any inspiration of what to make Patch of Puddles has some great ideas – I can see us making some penguins before Christmas!

This was a review post. We were sent 2 set of Fimo soft for the purpose of writing this. My review is honest and in my own words.
