We have a ton of dinosaurs in our house both plastic & stuffed, and the current favourite bedtime story is Dinosaurs love Underpants! When the Mini Build and Play Dinosaur from Meccano turned up J was over the moon! I was a bit tentative as it is aimed at age 5+ but now he had seen the box there was no way out!

I needn’t have worried!

The first time we built the dinosaur I got him to find the pieces we needed for each section, then I held them together and he put the screw through the holes and secured them in place. It only took about 5 minutes to build the Triceratops (or at least I think that’s what it is).

After the first go, we obviously had to take it apart – which he managed by himself, and then of course build it again! This time he wanted to assemble the pieces (washer, nut & bolt) and me to hold them whilst he wielded the screwdriver. There was no way I was getting my hands on that little red screwdriver!

Now he likes to pose the legs then tighten the screws or just take the head off and put it back on again. All he is able to do by himself, and he seem to have after just a few goes, learnt where all the pieces go. Although the legs do go on backwards sometimes…

As a first building set it is great fun, just the right amount of pieces to keep them interested. He also spotted straight away that there are other dinosaurs to collect and that you can put them together to build a bigger one – guess what I’ll be searching for now then!

The only negative point about the set is that the instructions are so small! I had my glasses on but they were just tiny. The one booklet serves as instructions for the whole set  so there is only 1 page for each. It would even be better to have them on the back of each box then it could be bigger.

This was a review post. I received a build and play dinosaur from Meccano so that we could review it for you. My review is honest and in my own words.
