You know sometimes when you see a woman parking/driving really badly, it makes you think ffs – no wonder men are always complaining about women drivers? Or is that just me?

That is how I feel about women golfers in general. Not all, some are fab and I’ve made some really good friends through playing. But on the whole, the ladies sections of golf clubs make me wish I were a man.

They seem to live up to all the stereotypes – bad dress sense, complain about everything, no direction, hundreds of petty rules and worst of all – so bloody slow!

Today was almost the slowest game I have played – following a ladies society, but as I have found with ladies from my own club – it isn’t their fault! They are not slow, not at all – it’s the people in front of them. Of course, silly me!

I am the ladies sections worst nightmare -

  • I’m competitive (which they can’t understand),
  • I stand up for myself (big mouth),
  • I’m improving (big threat),
  • I get on with the men at the club (clearly a hussy),
  • I play quickly (it’s not a race!),
  • I laugh on the course (yes, you can sometimes hear me on other holes),
  • I make an effort to look the part (you can definitely see me on other holes – that’ll be all the orange)
  • I’m young (ok not young, but at least 40 years younger than their average age)
  • And the biggest problem of all – I change my shoes in the car park! (I know, please try and contain your fury)

Get used to it you old dinosaurs, because like it or not I am part of the future of our club. I believe in equality, so if there’s ever a vote to get rid of the ladies committee and have one united club I’ll be for it. I’m a busy working Mum, golf is a luxury and one I have to fight to fit in and your stupid little rules will not get in my way.

I always have and always will change my shoes in the car park – just be thankful you haven’t witnessed me rushing to fit in 9 holes after work and getting fully changed in my car!

One day, I’ll be captain – and guess what, the team colours will be orange!
